1 Editor and Production Lead

The news cycle never quits, and there are always interested folks looking for content. That’s where the editor and production lead will fit as a key player on the Browns Beat team. This position is a vital one, so only the right candidate will be accepted. In this role you will edit, create and promote Browns Beat content while serving as one of the main faces of the organization on social media. Having an established social media presence is a big plus. The production lead will also distribute the weekly assignment sheet and follow-up with writers on progress, supporting them if needed. He/she must have a keen attention to detail and be capable of also writing quick-reaction news stories as they arise. The requirement for this is a 200-plus word post when relevant news is released.

You must reside in the Cleveland Metropolitan Area to be considered.

Competencies:

  • AP style knowledge with strong grammar skills
  • Social media affluence; must be a driving force for site content
  • WordPress publishing and HTML experience
  • General understanding of SEO concepts & headline writing
  • Experience writing and editing web or print-based content
  • Ability to effectively communicate remotely and respond to breaking news

2 News Writers

News writers will deliver breaking news articles recapping events and announcements. Although the desk team is welcome to submit additional contributions throughout the week, they will perform in an “on call” role, quickly being able to react to breaking news and team announcements with short 200-plus word articles. Seeking one evening and morning/afternoon news writer.

Competencies:

  • AP style knowledge with strong grammar skills
  • Social media; must participate and build a social network
  • Experience with news writing
  • Ability to write quick, concise news stories in response to breaking news
  • Extensive knowledge of the Cleveland Browns and NFL
